We’ve Got A Stripey Situation On Our Hands
And we ain't complaining! From Delpozo to Fendi, learn how to wear bold stripes on stripes from the designers championing the trend this season.
| February 16, 2017We’re only just realising how much our trend of the week has in common with things starting with the letter “B”. Beach towel, beach ball, boardroom, barcodes, Beetlejuice. Yes, yes, we are indeed talking about stripes. Do note that the season’s stripes are not your mother’s Breton stripes. These are bold. Visible-from-a-mile bold.
Fendi and Proenza Schouler put a sporty spin to the bold stripe, though the former’s striped leather trousers are nothing like the lax sweatpants covering the street style scene. These are another level. Rosie Assoulin, Monse and Mulberry see stripes through a more feminine albeit deconstructed lens, but it is Delpozo and Carolina Herrera that prove the statement print can be evening appropriate, even on the red carpet for the more daring ones of the Tinseltown lot.
Of course, there is something for the boyish, by way of suits that range from cropped lengths at Tory Burch to deconstructed and oversized at Rag & Bone and Jacquemus. Sacai walks the fine line between masculinity and femininity with boxy striped parka jackets worn over flouncy pleated striped skirts with pockets of lace peeking out. There, something for everyone, though if you’re like us, you’ll have one of everything.
