Trend Alert: Let’s Get Waisted
The Kardashian-Jenners and their penchant for wrapping things around their waist may be having a bigger influence on fashion than you think.
| February 8, 2017Somebody out there is trying to make corset belts and waist cinchers happen – and it is working. While not as big a trend as the ’80s shoulder or the sudden influx of pink, the corset belt looks poised to be quite the force to be reckoned with, even more so considering the Kardashian-Jenner-Hadid Clan endorsement. Pretty sure they have a going-out waist cincher-corset thing for every day of the week.
Of course, the corset/waist-cinching trend isn’t new. Most trends aren’t, anyway. Givenchy had a variation several seasons back. Prada did a simple white one last fall. This season’s corset belt comes in many forms, from sculpted and architectural at Sally LaPointe and Loewe, to extremely chill at Misbhv and Ann Demeulemeester. Who says corsets have to be all stiff and stuffy? Stella McCartney even builds a corset into a blazer because who has the time to wear two things, right? Pffft.
The palette of choice doesn’t seem to veer far from black, white, navy, khaki and blush-beige, seemingly suggesting that the best way to navigate the corset belt is to stick to the neutrals and classics. Same goes for what you’re wearing underneath: white shirts, sheer blouses, shirt dresses, knits and t-shirts. Quite impossible to go wrong here.
