How To Deal With The Comeback Of The Dad Cap
Not just your best friend on bad hair days and makeup-free days, the baseball cap is officially a street style favourite. Here's how to style it, post-nineties.| January 30, 2017
The next trend can spring from the most unexpected of places. These days, it comes in the form of your parents in their youth. Three cheers for the folks! It is official that those giant sleeves from the ’80s that your mother once loved are back. Judging from the street style crowd at the recent Men’s Fashion Week and Couture Week, it seems like those baseball caps that your dad used to wear in the ’90s – and probably continue to wear today – are also back.
As they are the most classic and comfiest caps of all time, styling them is easy. The show goers in Paris and Milan paired the dad cap with blazers and jeans, turtlenecks under coats and, for a more feminine touch, slip dresses and big earrings. Us? We like to wear it with a duster trench and slip-ons. Or, with basically everything else on makeup-free days, bad hair days and days where we don’t feel especially perky.
The best part about the dad cap trend is that you probably already have one at home. They’re not difficult to find in stores, either. While this particular Balenciaga cap is virtually sold out everywhere, we did find this one from Vetements. For those who like their caps old school (read: dad-like), this, this and this will work just fine. Nothing like a good ol’ logo cap, eh? Just ask mom and dad.
