Micro-Trend Alert: Everything’s Coming Up Sheer For Spring
Ferragamo, Fendi and Max Mara all say "YES". Fashion month's not over yet, but this trend is locked and loaded.| September 28, 2017
We’re calling it: sheer is going to be all over in approximately six months from now. The see-through trend has been making its rounds several seasons – Maria Grazia Chiuri’s has been doing sheer corseted dresses since her debut at Dior and Anthony Vaccarello had a variety of sheer blouses for Saint Laurent last season – and since there’s no better time for sheer than spring, sheer looks have been all over the runway in the last weeks. Because fashion understands that not all of us can commit to or have the guts to free thy tatas, the season’s sheer largely falls on the outerwear department.
Coming in various silhouettes and forms. Calvin Klein went for throw-over dresses. Max Mara and Dolce & Gabbana suited up with see-through blazers. Fendi, Pringle of Scotland and Rihanna’s Fenty went for sport parkas and jackets. Salvatore Ferragamo’s toed the line between city and vacation wear. Burberry probably takes the cake for us with their super soft frosted PU trench coats.
Apart from providing a little more ventilation than regular coat or jacket, sheer outerwear also provide interesting layering opportunities. Say, over a printed shirt, a printed coat or yet another sheer ensemble. Fendi makes an excellent case for sheer on sheer on sheer. There’s this Miu Miu PVC trench, too.)
