You Won’t Be Missing Leather Bags With These Vegan Alternatives in Your Life

It’s 2020 – being vegan is all the rage anyway.

Fashion has come a long way in its animal-cruelty free agenda. Last year Prada, Gucci, Coach and Burberry pledged their commitment to stop the use of fur. The year prior, Versace and Michael Kors had done the same. For nearly two decades, Stella McCartney has remained steadfast in its stance against the use of all things animal-related.

Yet, the road ahead remains long. While the industry’s efforts to pull back on fur are hopeful, its blind eye to the use of leather particularly in the handbag and accessories category leaves plenty of room for improvement. Change can start from consumers just as much as it can from big industry players. We won’t bore you with economics but to put it simply, when the demand dips, the supply follows.

It’s 2020 – a vegan leather handbag slung across the shoulder is a far sexier statement than…well, if you think about it, a dead cow. If you’re unacquainted with the world of veganism, vegan leather is an alternative that’s, in fact, not leather at all. Like the make of vegan anything, it’s the product of plant materials (read: also consequentially ethical, sustainable, and cruelty-free).

If you need any further convincing, we’ll let the lineup of carryalls (oh, and the marginally cheaper price tag) do the work.
