Belly Button Holes and Waist-High Boots? Sure Thing, Vetements!
One show, 18 collaborations, 54 looks and 10 crazy new ways to dress.
| July 5, 2016Question: How do you make your runway show stand out among the myriad of labels in the ready-to-wear schedule? You show at Couture Week! At a department store! Although, being the It kid of the season, Vetements’ head designer Demna Gvasalia would have made headlines even if he went via the traditional route. As if going off-schedule and off-site weren’t envelope-pushing enough, the hotter-than-hotcakes designer collective decided to create the collection with 18 other widely-recognised brands, from Apple to Dr. Martens. Collaborations between brands are common, but 18? It must be some kind of record.
As always, we can always count of Gvasalia & Co. to redefine and reconstruct what counts as streetwear. There were the ultra-oversized jackets and trench coats that were lazily worn over oversized shirts. There was plenty of that signature denim, as well as those thigh-high boots that sent everyone and their extended family into frenzy when they first surfaced in Spring 2015. But this is Vetements, and at Vetements, the surprises keep coming. Enter off-the-shoulder bombers that require harnesses! Juicy Couture cat suits! And, the crème de la crème – WAIST-HIGH Manolo Blahnik satin boots!
From waist-high boots to belly-button peepholes, scroll through the gallery above for 10 potential trends that Vetements could be igniting in the seasons to come. Tell us which one you’re totally on-board with. Waist-high, my heavens.
