Behold, The Holy Grail of Photo Editing Apps

Because the world has so much more to offer than just Clarendon and Ludwig.
|

Finding a good photo-editing app is sort of like shopping for makeup. You spend on a particular product/app only to find that it does nothing for you, but the one next to it, which costs next to nothing, works like a charm. Many of you have been asking about the apps I use to edit my photos for Instagram, and while I wish that my answer were something fancier, like Photoshop, Lightroom or something along those lines, I really just rely on apps that are easily available on the App Store. Lo and behold, here they are. Have better apps to recommend? Let us know in the comments below! #sharingiscaring

Snapseed
For basic editing, like adjusting the brightness and contrast, perspective and details of a photo. Snapseed’s really handy because it also allows you to fix specific parts of your photo (e.g. exposure, saturation) without affecting the rest of it. There’s also a tool that helps to remove stuff on, say, a white wall, so you get a uniformed background throughout. (Geddit here.)

Afterlight
For its various filters. If you want to frame your photo with a white border, Afterlight lets you do that as well, even allowing you to adjust the thickness of the border to your liking. (Geddit heere.)

360
This one’s for situations when I want to capture a panoramic view. (Geddit heeere.)

VSCO
Oh, what would we all do without VSCO? Like Afterlight, VSCO is my go-to for photo filters. I don’t have a specific favourite – I just go with the one that suits the lighting and colours of my unfiltered photo. Some of the filters can look a little harsh, so don’t forget to adjust the intensity. (Geddit heeeeere.)
