We Asked 5 Men From Different Industries About Their Ideal Date Night

We're always talking to the ladies, so for this Valentine's Day special, we're flipping the table and turning our focus to the lads.
|

In my many years of journalism, the thing I realised about dating stories is that it mostly revolves around women. It is similar to the “Red Carpet Syndrome”, where it is the women who are often asked the “softer” questions, like who made their dress, who did their hair, how they prepped their skin. The same goes for dating stories when Valentine’s Day rolls around. Let’s just say that I’ve been guilty of churning out such content, far more times than once. (Our other Valentine’s Day special features quips from three women, but that is because we personally know the lassies more than the lads.)

What should you wear for dates? What are the conversation starters for single ladies? It is time for us to even out the playing field. Thus, for this story in particular, we decided to flip the table and turn the focus to the men. What will THEY be wearing? What will THEY be eating? To keep things interesting, we asked five guys from a variety of industries and no, they’re not all single and ready to mingle, but there is no harm in letting the eye wander just a teeny, tiny bit, yeah? Plus, some of the responses we got are just really dang sweet. Whether you’re a dude or a dudette, there are plenty of notes to take. From us to all the lovers out there, Happy Valentine’s Day (and week)!

Where is the best place for a date?
I will either go to a theme park or a carnival. It’s fun and it’s adventurous in a way, you get to see if she’s fun and daring, or just a princess with her fancy handbag.

What is your idea of a great gift?
Something that it will last a while, like a memory. I will bring her on a weekend getaway.

What will you be wearing?
Well, if I was going to bring her to a theme park, I would put on casual wear, but swaggy.

What will she be wearing?
Hopefully similar to mine.

What will you be eating for dessert?
Definitely Oreo cheesecake.

Where is the best place for a date?
A nice simple dinner by the beach.

What is your idea of a great gift?
A personal gift that bares significant meaning to her and our future.

What will you be wearing?
T-shirt, jeans and boots.

What will she be wearing?
A nice, comfortable simple dress, something she feels most comfortable in.

What will you be eating for dessert?
Ice cream by the beach!

Where is the best place for a date?
It would probably be somewhere we both like, doesn’t matter if we’ve been there before. Preferably with less people around. Something intimate, perhaps.

What is your idea of a great gift?
Something that the person likes, doesn’t matter the price.

What will you be wearing?
I’ll be wearing what I always wear!

What will she be wearing?
Hmmm, a dress would be nice, perhaps, but I don’t care. She just has to put on a smile.

What will you be eating for dessert?
Something really sweet and a lot of it, so there’s plenty for both of us.

Where is the best place for a date?
Home. Because nothing beats spending quality time having dinner in the comforts of your own home with someone that truly matters.

What is your idea of a great gift?
Any thoughtful gift, big or small would be great. Shows that the significant other has been paying attention to what the other half needs. Like, an air purifier if she’s having the sniffles lately or a luxurious spa package if she’s been overworked.

What will you be wearing?
Shorts and a tee. A man has to be comfortable whipping up a feast in the kitchen.

What will she be wearing?
Something fancy, because she probably thinks we’re heading out. Haha!

What will you be eating for dessert?
Ice cream from the same cup. Or, a bowl of glutinous rice balls, because it’s real heartwarming.

Where is the best place for a date?
There used to be this restaurant I know in Labrador Park. I went there often, but it recently changed owners. It was a really beautiful place.

What is your idea of a great gift?
Sincerity.

What will you be wearing?
A Hawaiian shirt and a pair of chinos will do the trick for me.

What will she be wearing?
Probably the same as me, haha! We have similar styles. Her taste would be towards the androgynous side.

What will you be eating for dessert?
I would end the night with a delectable chocolate lava cake.
