The Bacteria Zapping Gadgets We All Need In Our Lives
If you're going to be spending your money on anything, consider these germaphobe-approved investments.| April 9, 2020
There are many things that the global pandemic has made of us. Some of us have flourished into home chefs, others, personal trainers or self-taught wellness coaches but on top of it all, most of us have emerged germaphobes. Overnight, drugstore shelves across the globe were wiped out of hand sanitisers, anti-bacterial wipes and disinfectant sprays. We have all become hyperaware of the bacteria lurking on every conceivable surface even when its not visible to the naked eye. You know better than to offer a handshake (elbow bumps are as good of a greeting as any), hold the poles on the trains for support or god forbid, let your skin come into the slightest contact with a foreign object.
The pathogen’s world tour has changed us all in a way that countless exaggerated metaphors have failed to. Your phone has more bacteria than a toilet seat. Researchers have found that keyboards contain more than 7,000 microorganisms and your earphones more than 2,000. The 20-second hand wash rule. It all largely fell on deaf ears. Oh, how the tables have turned in the last few months. Now, Most of us walk around with the paranoia of bacteria hanging over our heads.
Wash. Disinfect. Sanitise. Call it the new age mantra. As we settle into a new normal, bacteria-zapping gadgets make for worthy investments to look into. Just as there’s no way to really tell whether your phones, keyboards and every other surface is filthy with bacteria, there’s no way to know for sure that sanitising works. But we’d trust technology to do a better job at cleaning while we get the 20-second hand wash rule down pat. Better safe than sorry, they say.
