Gucci Makes Chairs & Cushions Now – And I’m Kind Of Obsessed
Why *wouldn't* you want a silk screen covered with mini pineapples?| July 14, 2017
I’m in the midst of redecorating my crib and while many things are still being decided – for example, whether I need a Pax system from IKEA in my life – I know one thing for sure: I need an antique desk and chair. If not true antique, then at least one that looks like it has been sat on by many a distinguished derrière across the decades. A lord, a lady, an earl – that sort of thing. When I do find it, that antique desk and chair set shall be the crowning glory of my crib, along with the vase of fresh blooms that I have decided to make a thing that I do to make myself feel more like an adult.
So, imagine my joy when I found out this morning that Gucci is going into the homeware business. They’ve got cushions, jars, plates, pots, screen dividers and – behold – chairs. Glossy and all grandmother-in-a-cottage like, complete with that essential Alessandro Michele Gucciness in the form of an embroidered floral cushion seat. Also, you don’t know you need a silk screen divider covered with mini pineapples until you see one.
Gucci’s homeware line was really a matter of time. Their chairs and seats at shows are almost always customised. Don’t forget that one time where every show-goer at Gucci’s Cruise 2017 show was given an embroidered cushion to take home. Heck, even their show invites deserve to be placed on a mantel.
Obviously and expectedly, my joy very quickly turned to despair. Firstly, I’d probably have to eat ramen forever in order to fund it and a sodium-laden diet really doesn’t agree with me. Secondly, Gucci Home is a little hard to get. For now, it will only be available in Hong Kong, Japan, London, New York, China, Milan and Paris. But hey, if you’re desperate for it, you’ll make it work. Now, excuse me while I go wallow in self-pity whilst clutching onto pictures of the chairs and screens.
