KULALA Weekends: Equate Coffee, A Minimalistic Enclave for Caffeine and Canelé

Coffee connoisseurs, listen up! Tucked away in an unassuming facade at the heart of the city, this newly opened cafe is not one to sleep on.

It’s truly remarkable, the sheer number of cafes littered across our teeny weeny island. And it’s a lineup that only seems to be growing in numbers. Rightfully so, given that cafe-hopping is the unofficial national past-time. We’re most definitely not complaining.

Enter Equate Coffee, a minimalist coffee joint that is barely a few days old. Tucked away in a quiet corner on the second floor of Tanjong Pagar Plaza, the industrial interior of Equate Coffee paints a stark contrast against the timeworn, old-school establishments you’d find in the same building. If anything, its inconspicuous location only adding to its cool factor. Stepping into Equate Coffee, we were momentarily transported to one of the achingly hip cafes one would find in Tokyo.

A concrete feature wall that very much reminded us of the works of Daniel Arsham, a single bar counter where the barista works his magic, a long bench seating format – get your cameras ready. That’s not all. The impeccable coffee art and bakes are just as equally photogenic. The camera will definitely be eating first.

It’s the perfect place for a late afternoon cuppa joe or if you need a lil sumthin’ sumthin’ to satisfy your sweet tooth after a meal, Equate Coffee’s canelés and cakes certainly won’t disappoint.

P.S. It’s not officially on the menu but ask for a Yoyo coffee and be surprised!
