Psst, Here’s Where to Shop Vintage Furniture in Singapore

You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
|

A room or a house is very much a reflection of the person who lives in it. For instance, Gabrielle Chanel’s prized apartment on 31 rue Cambon bore evidence of the icon’s inclination to personal symbols whether it was the lion for strength, wheat for prosperity or a custom chandelier that hid her favourite numbers. Diana Vreeland’s all-red living room she described as a “garden in hell” painted her irreverent personality. Karl Lagerfeld’s many abodes were as fabulous as the man himself.

The abodes of these creative vanguards epitomise #homegoals. And a key common ingredient across them all: personality. But let’s face it, not many of us live the luxurious, globe-trotting lives that Chanel or Lagerfeld did. For most of us, filling our homes with trinkets and furniture sourced from the markets in Marrakech or the craftsmen in Indonesia is a far-fetched dream. However, what we can do is reverse engineer our homes to speak of the ideal lives we want to live.

Enter the world of vintage furniture shopping. You might not have traversed the globe yourself but someone else would have. As they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. You don’t have to look too far. Contrary to popular belief, there are a handful of well-curated vintage boutiques right here at the little red dot. Refurbished and given a second lease of life, you’d be able to find a good mix of functional furniture and ornamental pieces at these vintage enclaves. A head’s up – if you do eventually make the trip down, expect yourself to spend hours lost in these antique heavens.

The pieces here not only take you back in time, it’d also transport you to another part of the world.

Journey East‘s foray into the vintage furniture business goes way back to 1995. Initially a place predominantly for antique pieces from a bygone era, the industry veterans have over the years diversified their business. While they continue to be highly sought after for their vintage finds, they have also expanded into eco-friendly reclaimed teak wood furniture, industrial-styled furnishings, and contemporary designer pieces. Here, the new and the old unite in their firm grasp of impeccable craftsmanship.
