Simple Luxury Continues to be at the Forefront of Michael Kors’ Agenda

At a time when the fashion industry contemplates its place in the world, Michael Kor’s brand of understated luxury resonates now more than ever.

In the midst of a global pandemic, the role of fashion has repeatedly surfaced in discussions. Surely, it has sent designers mining for answers in the past couple of months. If the Spring/Summer 2021 showings were anything to go by, a collective consensus has been reached. Fashion in the time of Miss Rona’s world tour has stripped back on the excesses, leaning instead towards simplicity.

At Michael Kors, this meant business went about as usual, at least in the clothing department. The presentation itself eventually migrated online, as most shows have this season. Michael Kors took his presentation to a rooftop community garden in the Bronx, an initiative spearheaded by the New York Restoration Project which Kors’ has been a part of for the last 25 years. From the shrubbery emerged the designer’s stellar lineup of 56 looks.

While understated elegance may be unchartered terrain for some, it’s a well-trodden path for Kors. For as long as memory serves, Kors has anchored his eponymous label’s ethos in creating a wardrobe for contemporary women. Wearability, inherently, at its core.

As one would expect, Kors continued to thrive in his element. This season, Kors reimagined daytime and evening wear separates in a wardrobe heavy on neutrals and, as per usual, practicality. The opening look, an oversized cream blazer layered over a knit sweater and pleated pants in the same hue, set the tone for the collection that ensues. It also expertly highlights Kors’s knack for lending even the most banal of wardrobe staples a certain visual appeal. For instance, a shift dress was embroidered with beads all over.

At Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer 2021 outing, even the most banal of everyday wear gets a luxurious uplift while still grounded in comfort. A global pandemic does not take away from the fact that we should dress to feel good on the daily, perhaps, it’s even more pivotal that we do so now than ever before.
